Dental Treatment for Patients Traveling to Beverly HillsFrom within the US, or from abroad.

Traveling for dental treatment raises three questions before any other: how long you will be away, what happens if something needs attention once you are home, and whether you have to commit to a trip before you know what the treatment is. This page answers each of them. Everyone pays the same price, wherever they travel from.

Your consultation, including a 3D X-ray (CT scan), is free.

Send photos if you have them. Either way, we reply with a cost. No obligation.

Part one: from within the United States

It starts from home.

Treatment for a patient who travels is planned around trips to Beverly Hills, with the first steps taken from home.

The first stage takes no time away from home. You send photos and whatever records you have, our treatment coordinator goes through them with you on a video call, and Dr. Mehdizadeh reviews your records. We start from photos and a video call; a CT scan or panoramic X-ray from near home helps, but is not required to start. Photos are enough for a written estimate. The estimate from your photos comes from us, and it is free.

Dr. Mehdizadeh makes the diagnosis in person, in California, at the start of the first trip, and the plan is confirmed then. A CT scan shows bone. It does not show the condition of the gum, how the teeth move, how the bite meets, or how the teeth sit under your lip when you speak and smile. Dr. Mehdizadeh examines all of that before deciding anything, and you see the written plan, with every visit and the total cost, before you agree to treatment.

What to send before the first trip.

Start with two photos of your smile, one relaxed and one smiling broadly, taken in daylight if you can. If your own dentist has taken X-rays or a CT scan, send those as well and tell us when they were taken; for a CT scan, send the scan files themselves as well as the written report. If another office has given you a treatment plan, send that too, and on the call we can explain where our view differs and why, as we do for a second opinion.

On the video call, tell us about your general health and any medication you take. Both affect the plan, and both decide whether IV sedation is suitable for you.

The trip plan

How many trips, and how long each one is.

What usually happens for each treatment. It is not a promise: your own plan is confirmed at the first visit, and healing does not always follow the calendar.

Why it takes time

Why most treatment takes more than one trip.

Implants and veneers each have a step in the middle that needs time. With implants, the step is healing. Once an implant is placed, the bone grows against its surface over the following weeks and months and holds it, a process called osseointegration. The final crown or bridge goes on after that, and the interval is assessed for each patient rather than assumed. In one single-implant case it was eight weeks; where bone grafting comes first, it runs longer. You go home in temporary teeth, and you are not left without teeth.

With veneers, the step is the design. We make the shape, length and shade first in temporary veneers, which you wear in your ordinary life and judge in your own mirror. We revise them until they are right, and only then does the ceramist make the final porcelain, copying what you approved.

This case shows how that fits a traveler's schedule. On a first visit of four days, we cleaned the teeth, Dr. Mehdizadeh performed a gum lift and placed an implant for a missing lower molar, we removed decay from an upper molar for an inlay, and we designed the smile and delivered upper and lower temporary veneers. He test-drove the temporaries and we revised them to his preferences. About twelve weeks later, once the implant had integrated, he returned for twenty porcelain veneers. The case took about thirteen weeks in all.

What happens on each trip.

The first trip. It begins with the examination, the diagnosis and the written plan. Nothing is done until you have agreed to it.

For implants, the treatment days that follow carry the surgery: any extractions, the implants themselves and any bone grafting the site needs, often under IV sedation, with temporary teeth fitted before you leave. For veneers, they carry the smile design, the preparation of the teeth and the temporary veneers. The last days of the trip leave time for us to review the healing, or the temporaries, before you fly home.

If your plan includes a sinus lift, Dr. Mehdizadeh tells you how soon you can fly. Cabin pressure changes act on the sinus while it heals, and a long flight makes the timing matter more.

The last trip. We try the final teeth in, the ceramist makes any adjustment in our laboratory in the same building, and we seat the teeth and balance the bite. Because nothing is sent away between appointments, the laboratory can shorten this trip. For a full arch, the final bridge in the option you chose replaces the temporary teeth; for veneers, the final porcelain replaces the temporaries.

If something needs attention after you fly home.

We plan the first trip so that the months between trips are quiet. We make the temporary teeth to be worn for that interval, and we review the healing before you leave. That is the plan, and it is not a promise: temporaries can loosen or chip, and healing does not always follow the calendar.

There is a plan for problems that arise after you fly home, and we go through it with you at the consultation. If anything feels wrong, call us on (310) 770-3335, or email info@drkiyan.dental with a photo.

IV sedation, and bringing a companion.

IV sedation here is given in this office by Dr. Mehdizadeh, who holds a California sedation permit and trained in IV sedation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It is included in every full-arch option.

If your treatment includes sedation, plan for two things. You must not eat or drink anything for at least eight hours beforehand. And a responsible adult must take you back to where you are staying and stay with you for several hours afterward, because the medication affects judgment and coordination for the rest of the day. For a patient who travels, that means bringing a companion for the days of surgery. Most patients feel normal by the following morning.

Part two: from abroad

Treatment from outside the United States.

If you live in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain or Oman, or anywhere else outside the United States, everything in part one applies to you. This part covers what is different.

The video call. The video call takes place during our office hours, Monday to Friday, 9 to 4, Pacific time. The Gulf states are 10 to 12 hours ahead of Los Angeles, depending on the country and the time of year, so a morning call here falls in your evening. From outside the United States, call us on +1 310 770 3335.

Reports in other languages. The images need no translation. If a written report or plan is not in English, send it as it is, with a translation if you have one.

Ramadan. If your dates fall during Ramadan, tell us when we plan them. The fasting before sedation and the timing of medication after surgery both need to be planned around it.

A letter for your visa.

If you need a visa to travel to the United States for treatment, we provide a letter for your application, signed by Dr. Mehdizadeh. We issue it once your first appointment is booked. The decision on the visa rests with the United States authorities.

Your records, in English, for your dentist at home.

Your examination notes, X-rays, CT scan and written plan are kept in English. When treatment is complete, you can take copies home, so that your own dentist can see which teeth were treated, what each restoration is made of and, for implants, the component details any dentist maintaining them needs. Your dentist at home remains your dentist for routine cleanings and examinations.

Language.

Our team works in English, and Spanish-speaking patients can talk with our Spanish-speaking dental assistant. For patients who speak Arabic or Russian, we work through translation, and we do this often. Arabic, Spanish and Russian versions of this site are in preparation. If English is not your first language, a family member who speaks it is welcome on the video call and at every appointment.

What it costs

What treatment costs.

Each case is quoted as a whole, and each treatment page sets out its prices: dental implants, All-on-4, porcelain veneers, full mouth reconstruction and wisdom teeth. You receive the total in the written plan before you agree to treatment.

Each full-arch price includes the surgery, IV sedation, extractions, temporary teeth and the follow-up visits until the final teeth are delivered. Flights and accommodation are yours to arrange and are not part of the fee.

Most PPO plans contribute toward the cost of treatment. Financing is available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to commit to treatment before my first trip?

No. Photos and a video call are enough for a written estimate from us; a CT scan or panoramic X-ray from near home helps, but is not required to start. Dr. Mehdizadeh makes the diagnosis in person at the start of the first trip, and you agree to the written plan only after you have seen it.

How long will I need to be away?

Between one and three trips, depending on the treatment. Veneers take two trips, of 5 nights and then 3 nights, 4 to 8 weeks apart. A single implant takes two trips, of 5 to 7 nights and then 3 to 5 nights, about 2 to 4 months apart. All four wisdom teeth take one trip of 2 to 3 nights. The table on this page shows what usually happens for each treatment; it is not a promise.

Can I have veneers if I live outside Los Angeles?

Yes. We make the design first in temporary veneers on the first trip, you wear them between trips, and we fit the final porcelain on the second. One of the cases on this page, which included an implant, followed this pattern in about thirteen weeks.

Can my own dentist take the X-rays and the CT scan?

Yes. Any dental office or imaging center that takes CT scans can take it, and we tell you what the scan needs to cover. Send us the files and the date they were taken. A scan helps, but it is not required to start.

What if something needs attention after I fly home?

Call us on (310) 770-3335, or +1 310 770 3335 from outside the United States, or email a photo to info@drkiyan.dental. There is a plan for problems that arise after you fly home, and we go through it with you at the consultation.

Can a family member come with me?

Yes, to the video call and to the appointments. If your treatment includes IV sedation, a responsible adult must take you back to where you are staying and stay with you for several hours afterward, so a companion should travel with you.

Is the price different for patients who travel?

No. Everyone pays the same price, wherever they travel from. Flights and accommodation are yours to arrange and are not part of the fee.

Do you book hotels?

No. Our treatment coordinator answers questions about hotels and restaurants near the office, and you make the bookings yourself. Fly into Los Angeles International (LAX) or Hollywood Burbank (BUR).

Do you treat patients from Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the other Gulf states?

Yes. The plan is the same as for patients from within the United States: photos and a video call from home, then the trips to Beverly Hills set out on this page.

Can you provide a letter for my visa?

Yes. Dr. Mehdizadeh signs a letter for your visa application, and we issue it once your first appointment is booked. The decision on the visa rests with the United States authorities.

Will my records be in English?

Yes. Your notes, X-rays, CT scan and written plan are in English, and you can take copies home so that your own dentist can see what was done and what it is made of.
