What Reconstruction Actually Involves
Most patients arrive having been quoted one tooth at a time. That is how the patchwork happened in the first place. A reconstruction starts by looking at every tooth, the bite that moves them, and the gum and bone underneath — then treating them as one system.
The Bite Comes First
Worn, chipped and cracked teeth are usually a symptom. If the bite that caused the wear is not corrected, new restorations wear out the same way the old ones did. Dr. Mehdizadeh analyzes how the teeth meet and move before anything is prepared, and designs the new bite deliberately.
Foundation Before Finish
Receded gums, uneven gumlines, bone loss around old work and failing teeth are addressed first. Gum surgery, bone grafting and implant placement all happen in-house, so the foundation is built by the same person designing the final result.
One Set of Materials, One Plan
Old dentistry ages at different rates and in different colors. A reconstruction replaces the mismatched work with a single unified set of restorations — crowns, veneers and implant restorations chosen together, layered by the in-house ceramists, so the mouth reads as one mouth.
How a Reconstruction Is Sequenced
Records and Diagnosis
Full photographic series, 3D imaging, and a bite analysis. Dr. Mehdizadeh identifies what failed, why it failed, and what has to change structurally so the new work does not repeat it. You leave this appointment knowing the scope and the cost.
Design and Preview
The new bite and smile are designed digitally, then tested in your mouth in temporary form. You wear the design and eat with it before any final restoration is made. Changes happen here, not after.
Foundation Work
Any gum, bone, or implant work is completed in the sequence the plan requires. You are never left without teeth — temporaries stay in place throughout.
Final Restorations
The final crowns, veneers and implant restorations are placed and the bite is refined. Fit, function and appearance are verified together before the case is considered finished.

How is this different from getting veneers?+
Veneers address how the front teeth look. A reconstruction addresses how the whole mouth works and looks together, including the back teeth that do most of the chewing. If your teeth are worn, cracked, or your bite has collapsed over time, veneers alone would sit on an unstable foundation and wear out the same way the previous work did.
Do all my teeth have to be removed?+
No. That is a different procedure. Reconstruction keeps and rebuilds your natural teeth wherever they are sound enough to save, replacing only what cannot be kept. Full arch replacement with All-on-4 is for patients whose remaining teeth are not restorable.
Am I a candidate?+
Most patients with a combination of worn or chipped teeth, aging or mismatched restorations, and difficulty chewing are candidates. Bone loss and gum recession do not disqualify you — those are addressed as part of the plan. Dr. Mehdizadeh offers free consultations with no obligation.
How long does the whole process take?+
Most reconstructions are completed over two to six months, depending on whether implants or grafting are required and how much healing time the foundation work needs. You have functional temporary teeth throughout, and there is no stage where you are left without teeth.
Is it painful?+
Treatment is performed under local anesthesia, with IV sedation available in-house for patients who want it. Most patients describe the discomfort afterward as less than they expected. Dr. Mehdizadeh is certified in IV sedation and administers it himself.
How long will the new work last?+
Well-executed porcelain restorations last 15 to 20 years or longer with proper care, and implants routinely last decades. The bite correction is what protects that lifespan — restorations placed onto an uncorrected bite are the reason most patients need a reconstruction in the first place.
I have had work done at several different offices. Does that matter?+
That is the most common situation we see, and it is usually why the mouth stopped working as a unit. Existing crowns, bridges and implants are evaluated individually — anything sound is kept and matched to, and only what is failing is replaced.
Will it look obvious?+
No. Restorations are shade-matched, surface-textured and proportioned to your face and age. The intent is a mouth that looks like it was always that way, not a set of teeth that announces itself.
Who does the work?+
