Why two veneers rarely stay matched.
Two veneers can be matched precisely to the teeth beside them on the day they are placed. The difficulty is time. Natural teeth can change color over the years. When they do, the mismatch between the two veneers and the natural teeth becomes obvious, and it can stay obvious even after the natural teeth are bleached again.
There is a second difficulty. Enamel and ceramic are two different materials, and they do not handle light the same way. Two teeth that match in sunlight may not match in a dimly lit living room.
The exception is peg laterals, lateral incisors that are undersized. There, the need to stay conservative often outweighs everything else, and two veneers can be the right plan.
Why six veneers end in the wrong place.
Six veneers end at the canines, and the canine is where the mouth turns a corner. That corner is called the canine eminence. The upper arch is not really an arch at all: it is a curve with two soft corners.
When veneers end at that corner, the transition from ceramic to enamel sits on the most prominent, most convex part of the smile. Instead of hiding the transition, it highlights it.
The problem is compounded because, more often than not, veneers are not done with cosmetic excellence. The differences in color, light reflectance and texture between the veneers and the natural teeth become jarring and noticeable. The result is the bulky look: the front six teeth seem to pop out at the viewer. You have seen veneers like this many times, and they are unsettling.
Why four veneers work.
The canines are naturally more saturated in color than the four front teeth, the incisors. In a natural smile there is already a slight difference between the canines and the incisors, and to an ordinary observer it does not register, because it is natural and expected.
Four veneers take advantage of this. The veneers end exactly where nature already places a change in color, so the result looks natural and reproduces what natural teeth do.
Why eight or ten veneers work.
Eight or ten veneers end behind the corner of the smile, where the transition from ceramic to enamel is out of the direct line of sight.
They also give us the opportunity to broaden the smile, ten veneers especially. The result is not only better teeth but an overall more youthful, inviting smile.

What each number costs.
We quote each case as a whole, by the number of veneers it needs, never per tooth.
| Number of veneers | Which teeth | Where the porcelain ends | Total | Monthly144 payments at 9.99% APR, on approved credit. | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 (peg laterals) | The two lateral incisors | Beside your natural central incisors | $10,000 - $12,000 | $120 - $144/month | See the case |
| 4 | The four front teeth, the incisors | At the canines, where natural color already changes | $16,000 - $18,000 | $192 - $216/month | See the case |
| 8 | Incisors, canines and first premolars | Behind the corner of the smile | $20,000 - $24,000 | $239 - $287/month | |
| 10 | Incisors, canines and both premolars | Behind the corner of the smile | $24,000 - $28,000 | $287 - $335/month | See the case |
| 20 | Ten upper and ten lower | Behind the corners, in both arches | $38,000 - $50,000 | $454 - $598/month | See the case |
Most cases also include a gum lift or whitening.
The consultation, including a 3D X-ray (CT scan), is complimentary. Most PPO plans contribute toward the cost of treatment. Financing is available. Porcelain veneers covers the treatment itself.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many veneers do I need?
Most cases use four, eight, ten or twenty. The number depends on where the porcelain can end without the transition to natural enamel showing, and on how much of the smile needs to change.
Why not six veneers?
Six veneers end at the canines, where the arch turns a corner. That puts the transition from ceramic to enamel on the most prominent part of the smile, where differences in color, light and texture show.
Are two veneers ever the right plan?
For peg laterals, lateral incisors that are undersized, yes. Otherwise two veneers can be matched on the day, but natural teeth change color over time and enamel and ceramic do not handle light the same way.
What do veneers cost by number?
Four veneers $16,000 - $18,000, eight $20,000 - $24,000, ten $24,000 - $28,000 and twenty $38,000 - $50,000. Two veneers for peg laterals are $10,000 - $12,000. Most cases also include a gum lift or whitening.
